Let me tell you about the beautiful Indian Ocean! It’s the third-largest ocean of the world. It is bounded by Asia to the north, Africa to the west and Australia to the east. Three continents! It’s covering 70,560,000 km2, which means around 19.8% of the water on Earth’s surface. The maximum depth is 7.290m called the Java Trench and is located between Jakarta and Australia. The temperature is always between 22 and 28 Grad Celsius. I can say it’s really warm!! But what about the tides? Is there ebb and flood? Yes, it is! Because it’s all over the world. The moon you know 😉
hmm, but what about the East Sea or the Mediterranean Ocean? There’s also tide! But not more then 10cm. And that’s because of the connection to a bigger ocean. The Mediterranean Sea is connected with the Atlantic Ocean over the Street of Gibraltar. Because of this very small connection there’s not enough time for the water to flow back and forth in 6 hours. And the same is with the East Sea, there’s just a small connection to the North Sea around Denmark.
That means for us, we can walk to the barrier riff in front of the beach. And we will do this next week. Because tomorrow is Safari time!!
