We leave the airport around 07:40 and drive towards the Likoni ferry, which takes us from the peninsula to the mainland. 32km to the hotel.
Rush hour. The roads are full of people, motorcycles, tuktuks and cars. Car dealers on every corner. Electric cars? Not to be seen anywhere.
A picture reminds me of home: everyone looks at their mobile phone …

We need about 40 minutes for the first 12km to the ferry. 4 ferries permanently drive the 2km way back and forth. The mooring manoeuvre has something special I can say … Hakuna Matata.
Then it goes on the road to the south. Right and left of it people selling things, rarely from half-finished houses or to n front of it. Sofas, shelves, clothes, vegetables & fruits, building materials, bed frames and doors.

And in between a mother with two very small children sits under a tree, a cup in front of her and hopes for some money…
45 minutes later we turn onto Beach Road. The picture changes. Houses with doors, bars, supermarkets, restaurants and shops. The place called Diani Sea. After almost 2 hours of driving, we arrive at the hotel.
Diani Sea Lodge and for a short moment I’m 15 again 🙈
