HELLO …

…you and welcome 🙂

I’m Kate … and I’ll try to do something I’ve never did before: Writing.

Inspired by someone whom I’ve met a few months ago and made me to watch and think about things in another way, I will start with a journey to my past.

In August 1993, at the age of 15 my parents and I went to Kenia. It was my first flight ever – an unforgettable experience! (For me it’s still unbelievable that airplanes can fly)

From Dresden to Berlin, to Mombasa. 9 hours from home in another world. Completely different to everything I’ve known before. Mombasa and also the airport is located on a peninsula. That means all tourists and also the habitants of Mombasa use the Likoni ferry which connect the north coast with the south coast. We went by bus to the ferry and had to drop of the bus. And here we were: just a few white people arounded by much more black people looking at us. Awkward feeling. We left the ferry and went to our hotel. Through the streets of Mombasa. And then I’ve became quiet and felt humble. Poverty everywhere. And as a 15 year old girl who was born and raise in east germany, sheltered and lucky you can’t imagine what poverty means. Now I saw it.

For the first time I felt so grateful for my life and all I had.

Arrived at our hotel “Diani Sea Lodge” we entered another world again. A beautiful place at the Indian Ocean like paradise. To cut a long story short it was one of two vacations to Kenia and both have been so impressive to me that I’ve decide to show my 16 years old son this amazing and beautiful world. And I hope he will be so impressed like me 30 years ago.

So here we are: our journey will start at the 6th of march and I will write about this.

Enjoy …
